3 While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.

I arose to open for my beloved, and my hands dripped with myrrh, my fingers with flowing myrrh, on the handles of the bolt.


And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.


So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more.


‘But not during the festival,’ they said, ‘or the people may riot.’


Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, ‘Why this waste of perfume?


(This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay ill, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.)
