They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor, their righteousness endures for ever; their horn will be lifted high in honour.


Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.


Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.


All day long he craves for more, but the righteous give without sparing.


The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.


Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight; you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.


When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the labour that is done on earth – people getting no sleep day or night –


‘This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.’


But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.


And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.


But now as for what is inside you – be generous to the poor, and everything will be clean for you.


Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.


When Jesus heard this, he said to him, ‘You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’


If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.


Do to others as you would have them do to you.


Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.’


In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”  ’


For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.


Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
