For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.


From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.


‘Sir,’ they said, ‘we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, “After three days I will rise again.”


He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.


‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.


He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.


and saying, ‘It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.’


In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, ‘Why do you look for the living among the dead?


And he said, ‘The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.’


‘Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.’


But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.


Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?
