The crowds answered, ‘This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.’


‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God!’


One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, ‘Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?’


They were all filled with awe and praised God. ‘A great prophet has appeared among us,’ they said. ‘God has come to help his people.’


He came to Jesus at night and said, ‘Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no-one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.’


‘Sir,’ the woman said, ‘I can see that you are a prophet.


After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, ‘Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.’


They replied, ‘Are you from Galilee, too? ‘Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.


Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.


The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.
