I was silent; I would not open my mouth, for you are the one who has done this.


He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.


When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.


But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge – to the great amazement of the governor.


‘Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.


But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.


He replied, ‘Go and tell that fox, “I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.”


The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him.


and he went back inside the palace. ‘Where do you come from?’ he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer.


This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading: ‘He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.


When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.
