The rest seized his servants, ill-treated them and killed them.


All these are the beginning of birth-pains.


There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.


Remember what I told you: “A servant is not greater than his master.” If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.


They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me.


The commander wanted to find out exactly why Paul was being accused by the Jews. So the next day he released him and ordered the chief priests and all the members of the Sanhedrin to assemble. Then he brought Paul and set him before them.


His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.


But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.


He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?’

Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.
