Three days later Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, as the king had said, ‘Come back to me in three days.’


Rehoboam answered, ‘Go away for three days and then come back to me.’ So the people went away.


The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.


For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.


From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.


Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.


One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal those who were ill.


‘You are Israel’s teacher,’ said Jesus, ‘and do you not understand these things?


But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honoured by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while.


They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.
