One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.


Jesus answered, ‘If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’


but few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’


Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.


I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.


‘All these I have kept since I was a boy,’ he said.


When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy.


Then he said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.


Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead,


But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
