Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?


For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!


Say to them, “As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?”


‘Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.


‘See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.


In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.


‘I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God.


But whoever disowns me before others will be disowned before the angels of God.


I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.’


Jesus continued: ‘There was a man who had two sons.


I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who do not need to repent.


And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbours together and says, “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.”


Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven – as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.’


When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, ‘So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.’


But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out.


Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.


Perhaps the reason he was separated from you for a little while was that you might have him back for ever –


Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
