In my alarm I said, ‘I am cut off from your sight!’ Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.


So I say, ‘My splendour is gone and all that I had hoped from the Lord.’


Even when I call out or cry for help, he shuts out my prayer.


Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.


For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.


‘Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead?


‘So I say to you: ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.


Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.


When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.


As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
