Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, ‘Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.


On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. ‘Teacher,’ he asked, ‘what must I do to inherit eternal life?’


Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.’


All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.


These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised,
