May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us nor forsake us.


May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in obedience to him and keep the commands, decrees and laws he gave our ancestors.


Turn my heart towards your statutes and not towards selfish gain.


Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.


I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.


do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.


turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding –


Ephraim, what more have I to do with idols? I will answer him and care for him. I am like a flourishing juniper; your fruitfulness comes from me.’


‘Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshipped beyond the River Euphrates and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
