and with every living creature that was with you – the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you – every living creature on earth.


He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate – bringing forth food from the earth:


Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.


‘Come now, let us settle the matter,’ says the Lord. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.


So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Nineveh and stayed there.


for before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.


‘Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.’


When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.


But the Lord said, ‘You have been concerned about this plant, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight.


Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?”


And the little ones that you said would be taken captive, your children who do not yet know good from bad – they will enter the land. I will give it to them and they will take possession of it.
