For a hundred pieces of silver, he bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, the plot of ground where he pitched his tent.


And to you I give one more ridge of land than to your brothers, the ridge I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow.’


For the message he declared by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel and against all the shrines on the high places in the towns of Samaria will certainly come true.’


And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him;


Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?’


Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, ‘He told me everything I’ve ever done.’


Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.


(His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)


And Joseph’s bones, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the tract of land that Jacob bought for a hundred pieces of silver from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem. This became the inheritance of Joseph’s descendants.
