Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?


‘Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!’


Like clouds and wind without rain is one who boasts of gifts never given.


Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.


You have trusted in your wickedness and have said, “No-one sees me.” Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you when you say to yourself, “I am, and there is none besides me.”


Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough?


But if you harbour bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.


For everything in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – comes not from the Father but from the world.


Give her as much torment and grief as the glory and luxury she gave herself. In her heart she boasts, “I sit enthroned as queen. I am not a widow; I will never mourn.”
