Then Abimelek called Abraham in and said, ‘What have you done to us? How have I wronged you that you have brought such great guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should never be done.’


‘No, my brother!’ she said to him. ‘Don’t force me! Such a thing should not be done in Israel! Don’t do this wicked thing.


Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets tell fortunes for money. Yet they look for the Lord’s support and say, ‘Is not the Lord among us? No disaster will come upon us.’


Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.


You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarrelling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?


Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also busybodies who talk nonsense, saying things they ought not to.


Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters.


My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,


Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.


Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?


With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.


Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
