on behalf of a man he pleads with God as one pleads for a friend.


The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young assistant Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.


‘But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend,


Haven’t you read this passage of Scripture: ‘ “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;

God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don’t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah – how he appealed to God against Israel:

But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.


So also Abraham ‘believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.’


All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,


You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.


For in Scripture it says: ‘See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.’
