Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them for ever.


From my birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise you.


“You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.


Unless the Lord Almighty had left us some survivors, we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.


In that day the remnant of Israel, the survivors of Jacob, will no longer rely on him who struck them down but will truly rely on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.


A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob will return to the Mighty God.


Though your people be like the sand by the sea, Israel, only a remnant will return. Destruction has been decreed, overwhelming and righteous.


In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the surviving remnant of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, from Elam, from Babylonia, from Hamath and from the islands of the Mediterranean.


It may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the field commander, whom his master, the king of Assyria, has sent to ridicule the living God, and that he will rebuke him for the words the Lord your God has heard. Therefore pray for the remnant that still survives.’


Those who are left in Zion, who remain in Jerusalem, will be called holy, all who are recorded among the living in Jerusalem.

Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted, you who are now far from my righteousness.

‘Hear me, you who know what is right, you people who have taken my instruction to heart: do not fear the reproach of mere mortals or be terrified by their insults.


In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.


and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.’
