Prepare me the kind of tasty food I like and bring it to me to eat, so that I may give you my blessing before I die.’


Jacob became angry with her and said, ‘Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children?’


Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. ‘Who are these with you?’ he asked. Jacob answered, ‘They are the children God has graciously given your servant.’


All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them, giving each the blessing appropriate to him.


(All these were sons of Heman the king’s seer. They were given to him through the promises of God to exalt him. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.)


Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.


Here am I, and the children the Lord has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the Lord Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.


This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced on the Israelites before his death.


By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, and worshipped as he leaned on the top of his staff.


So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, ‘Because I asked the Lord for him.’


I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him.
