When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face.


‘I’ll send you a young goat from my flock,’ he said. ‘Will you give me something as a pledge until you send it?’ she asked.


But when she took it to him to eat, he grabbed her and said, ‘Come to bed with me, my sister.’


All prostitutes receive gifts, but you give gifts to all your lovers, bribing them to come to you from everywhere for your illicit favours.


and asked, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?’ So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver.


You must not bring the earnings of a female prostitute or of a male prostitute into the house of the Lord your God to pay any vow, because the Lord your God detests them both.


For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
