Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milkah bore these eight sons to Abraham’s brother Nahor.


Then he and the men who were with him ate and drank and spent the night there. When they got up the next morning, he said, ‘Send me on my way to my master.’


and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aram and sister of Laban the Aramean.


Now then, my son, do what I say: flee at once to my brother Laban in Harran.


Go at once to Paddan Aram, to the house of your mother’s father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.


Then Jacob continued on his journey and came to the land of the eastern peoples.


He had told Rachel that he was a relative of her father and a son of Rebekah. So she ran and told her father.


Then God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night and said to him, ‘Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.’


Jacob came home to his father Isaac in Mamre, near Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.


‘ “Aram did business with you because of your many products; they exchanged turquoise, purple fabric, embroidered work, fine linen, coral and rubies for your merchandise.


Jacob fled to the country of Aram; Israel served to get a wife, and to pay for her he tended sheep.


Then you shall declare before the Lord your God: ‘My father was a wandering Aramean, and he went down into Egypt with a few people and lived there and became a great nation, powerful and numerous.
