Then God said, ‘Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.


But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year.’


I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, “My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.”


But what does Scripture say? ‘Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.’


even though God had said to him, ‘It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.’


And the Lord told him: ‘Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.


Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.’
