Then God said, ‘Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.


Then one of them said, ‘I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.’ Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him.


Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.’


Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised.


So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.


Then he blessed Joseph and said, ‘May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked faithfully, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,


‘If only you would hide me in the grave and conceal me till your anger has passed! If only you would set me a time and then remember me!


God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob.


Then he said, ‘I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.’ At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.


to Abraham and his descendants for ever, just as he promised our ancestors.’


to show mercy to our ancestors and to remember his holy covenant,


He said to them: ‘It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.


For this was how the promise was stated: ‘At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.’


If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.


By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.
