He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, ‘Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.’


In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.’


Then the Lord said, ‘The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous


because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the Lord against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it.’


But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death.


No-one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?’


Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence.


He sacrificed his own son in the fire, practised divination, sought omens, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger.


Unless the Lord Almighty had left us some survivors, we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.


And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen something horrible: they commit adultery and live a lie. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that not one of them turns from their wickedness. They are all like Sodom to me; the people of Jerusalem are like Gomorrah.’


Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?’ declares the Lord. ‘Do not I fill heaven and earth?’ declares the Lord.


‘But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.


While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.


But go and learn what this means: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’


A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. ‘Give glory to God by telling the truth,’ they said. ‘We know this man is a sinner.’


We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.


In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.


Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.


This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings;


In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.


And he sent you on a mission, saying, “Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; wage war against them until you have wiped them out.”


This sin of the young men was very great in the Lord’s sight, for they were treating the Lord’s offering with contempt.
