26 Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’

Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.’


Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.


And the Lord God said, ‘The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live for ever.’


This is the written account of Adam’s family line. When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God.


‘Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.


But no-one says, “Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night,


Will you rely on it for its great strength? Will you leave your heavy work to it?


For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field, and the wild animals will be at peace with you.


Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.


Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King.


This only have I found: God created mankind upright, but they have gone in search of many schemes.’

Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.


In his defence Jesus said to them, ‘My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.’


You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we would like to know what they mean.’


From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.


A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.


And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.


The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.


and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.


The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.


and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.


All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind,


With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.
