And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: ‘Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.


For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.


Hiram king of Tyre replied by letter to Solomon: ‘Because the Lord loves his people, he has made you their king.’


You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.


By his breath the skies became fair; his hand pierced the gliding serpent.


‘Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand.


He alone stretches out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea.

‘Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.


Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded?


Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.


Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no-one can fathom.


This is what God the Lord says – the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it:


‘This is what the Lord says – your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the Lord, the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself,


For this is what the Lord says – he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited – he says: ‘I am the Lord, and there is no other.


that you forget the Lord your Maker, who stretches out the heavens and who lays the foundations of the earth, that you live in constant terror every day because of the wrath of the oppressor, who is bent on destruction? For where is the wrath of the oppressor?


I have put my words in your mouth and covered you with the shadow of my hand – I who set the heavens in place, who laid the foundations of the earth, and who say to Zion, “You are my people.” ’


‘See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.


But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.


‘Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.


‘He made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.


A prophecy: the word of the Lord concerning Israel. The Lord, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the human spirit within a person, declares:


At that time Jesus said, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.


because those will be days of distress unequalled from the beginning, when God created the world, until now – and never to be equalled again.


‘Friends, why are you doing this? We too are only human, like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them.


‘The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands.


When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. ‘Sovereign Lord,’ they said, ‘you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.


For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory for ever! Amen.


yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.


and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.


He also says, ‘In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.


but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.


By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.


For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.


But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water.


That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched – this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.


And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, ‘There will be no more delay!


He said in a loud voice, ‘Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.’


He said to me: ‘It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.


I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.


‘To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.


‘You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.’
