3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.


Jesus answered, ‘It is written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”’

They all ate the same spiritual food


Yet the Lord says, ‘During the forty years that I led you through the wilderness, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet.


You ate no bread and drank no wine or other fermented drink. I did this so that you might know that I am the Lord your God.’


They are not just idle words for you – they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.’


When I went up on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the Lord had made with you, I stayed on the mountain for forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water.
