what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five people?’ ‘If I find forty-five there,’ he said, ‘I will not destroy it.’


Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures for ever.


and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honour me.’


He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him.


It may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the field commander, whom his master, the king of Assyria, has sent to ridicule the living God, and that he will rebuke him for the words the Lord your God has heard. Therefore pray for the remnant that still survives.’

The command to leave the stump of the tree with its roots means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge that Heaven rules.
