Meanwhile a prophet came to Ahab king of Israel and announced, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Do you see this vast army? I will give it into your hand today, and then you will know that I am the Lord.” ’


The man of God came up and told the king of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Because the Arameans think the Lord is a god of the hills and not a god of the valleys, I will deliver this vast army into your hands, and you will know that I am the Lord.” ’


Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise, and the survivors of your wrath are restrained.


Now I will give all your countries into the hands of my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; I will make even the wild animals subject to him.


When the army is carried off, the king of the South will be filled with pride and will slaughter many thousands, yet he will not remain triumphant.


‘At the time of the end the king of the South will engage him in battle, and the king of the North will storm out against him with chariots and cavalry and a great fleet of ships. He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood.


But reports from the east and the north will alarm him, and he will set out in a great rage to destroy and annihilate many.


‘The king of the South will become strong, but one of his commanders will become even stronger than he and will rule his own kingdom with great power.


in your hands he has placed all mankind and the beasts of the field and the birds in the sky. Wherever they live, he has made you ruler over them all. You are that head of gold.
