The Lord said, ‘If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.


Lord, confuse the wicked, confound their words, for I see violence and strife in the city.


‘Woe to me!’ I cried. ‘I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.’


‘Is not my word like fire,’ declares the Lord, ‘and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?


‘I baptise you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.


Jesus replied, ‘Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness.’ Then John consented.


They asked each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?’


In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty)


(both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs – we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!’


Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.


All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.


to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.


The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.


And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.’


Then I saw another angel flying in mid-air, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth – to every nation, tribe, language and people.
