And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.


You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.


‘This is what the Lord says: “Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight.


But the king said, ‘What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? If he is cursing because the Lord said to him, “Curse David,” who can ask, “Why do you do this?” ’


So at that time King Joram set out from Samaria and mobilised all Israel.


Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.


The sons of Tola: Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam and Samuel – heads of their families. During the reign of David, the descendants of Tola listed as fighting men in their genealogy numbered 22,600.


All these were descendants of Asher – heads of families, choice men, brave warriors and outstanding leaders. The number of men ready for battle, as listed in their genealogy, was 26,000.


But Hezekiah’s heart was proud and he did not respond to the kindness shown him; therefore the Lord’s wrath was on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.


But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt,

For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie


In his anger against Israel the Lord gave them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist.


Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel and said, ‘Because this nation has violated the covenant I ordained for their ancestors and has not listened to me,


Now let my lord the king listen to his servant’s words. If the Lord has incited you against me, then may he accept an offering. If, however, people have done it, may they be cursed before the Lord! They have driven me today from my share in the Lord’s inheritance and have said, “Go, serve other gods.”
