In charge of the division for the second month was Dodai the Ahohite; Mikloth was the leader of his division. There were 24,000 men in his division.


Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.


‘I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no-one was with me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing.


I looked, but there was no-one to help, I was appalled that no-one gave support; so my own arm achieved salvation for me, and my own wrath sustained me.


Then everyone deserted him and fled.


Then the Philistine said, ‘This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.’


David asked the men standing near him, ‘What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?’


Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.
