But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to David’s rescue; he struck the Philistine down and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, saying, ‘Never again will you go out with us to battle, so that the lamp of Israel will not be extinguished.’


I will give one tribe to his son so that David my servant may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put my Name.

Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.


You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.


The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?


Many, Lord, are asking, ‘Who will bring us prosperity?’ Let the light of your face shine on us.


For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour; no good thing does he withhold from those whose way of life is blameless.


Light shines on the righteous and joy on the upright in heart.


Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let the one who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on their God.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’


The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
