When Jehu came to Samaria, he killed all who were left there of Ahab’s family; he destroyed them, according to the word of the Lord spoken to Elijah.


The Lord had seen how bitterly everyone in Israel, whether slave or free, was suffering; there was no-one to help them.


‘It is true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands.


I will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line used against Samaria and the plumb-line used against the house of Ahab. I will wipe out Jerusalem as one wipes out a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down.


The Lord will vindicate his people and relent concerning his servants when he sees their strength is gone and no-one is left, slave or free.


May God deal with David, be it ever so severely, if by morning I leave alive one male of all who belong to him!’
