3 Year after year this man went up from his town to worship and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty at Shiloh, where Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were priests of the Lord.

He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent he had set up among humans.


‘Three times a year you are to celebrate a festival to me.


‘Three times a year all the men are to appear before the Sovereign Lord.


Three times a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign Lord, the God of Israel.


Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover.


Three times a year all your men must appear before the Lord your God at the place he will choose: at the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles. No-one should appear before the Lord empty-handed:


The whole assembly of the Israelites gathered at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there. The country was brought under their control,


They continued to use the idol Micah had made, all the time the house of God was in Shiloh.


But look, there is the annual festival of the Lord in Shiloh, which lies north of Bethel, east of the road that goes from Bethel to Shechem, and south of Lebonah.’

For I told him that I would judge his family for ever because of the sin he knew about; his sons uttered blasphemies against God, and he failed to restrain them.


The ark of God was captured, and Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died.


So the people sent men to Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim. And Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
