7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.

‘ “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbour as yourself. I am the Lord.


The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.


‘You have heard that it was said, “Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.”


‘A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.


Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, ‘May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting?


Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.


Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case – the things that have to do with salvation.


As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.


For this is the message you heard from the beginning: we should love one another.


Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.


Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God


And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.


Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.


Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.


And he has given us this command: anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.


Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
