I run in the path of your commands, for you have broadened my understanding.


Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands.


After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.


‘Why do you call me, “Lord, Lord,” and do not do what I say?


‘If you love me, keep my commands.


If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.


You are my friends if you do what I command.


Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.


For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.


We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.


This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence:


No-one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No-one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.


This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: he has given us of his Spirit.


Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.


We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.


This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.


In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,


Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring – those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus.


This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.
