1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.


But if you do warn the righteous person not to sin and they do not sin, they will surely live because they took warning, and you will have saved yourself.’


Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you for ever –


Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.


He called out to them, ‘Friends, haven’t you any fish?’ ‘No,’ they answered.


Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, ‘See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.’


‘I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish – the very works that I am doing – testify that the Father has sent me.


Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.’


‘No-one, sir,’ she said. ‘Then neither do I condemn you,’ Jesus declared. ‘Go now and leave your life of sin.’


Was there ever a prophet your ancestors did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him –


For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!


What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means!


Who then is the one who condemns? No-one. Christ Jesus who died – more than that, who was raised to life – is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.


Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God – I say this to your shame.


God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.


My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you,


For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.


‘In your anger do not sin’: do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,


For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,


Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing to you with these instructions so that,


For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence.


Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.


With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.


‘He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.’


For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.


Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.


But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.


Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.


You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.


All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.


Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.


I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
