But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before Jehovah, exceedingly so.


How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in His anger! He cast down the beauty of Israel from the heavens to the earth and remembered not His footstool in the day of His anger.


when I shall bring you down with those who go down into the Pit, with the people of old time, and shall set you in the low parts of the earth, in places ruined in days of old, with those who go down to the Pit, so that you have no inhabitants (but I gave glory in the land of the living)


to the end that none of all the trees by the waters shall be exalted in their height, nor give their top among the thick boughs, nor should their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water. For all of them are given to death, to the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the sons of men, with those who go down into the Pit.


Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and bring it down, her and the daughters of the majestic nations, to the lower parts of the earth, with those who go down into the Pit.


There is Elam and her multitude all around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword, who have gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, who caused their terror in the land of the living. Yet they have borne their shame with those who go down to the Pit.


Though you rise high like the eagle, and though you set your nest between the stars, I will bring you down from there, says Jehovah.


Truly I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.


And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

And you, Capernaum, which has been lifted up to Heaven, you shall be thrust down into hell.


For whoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.


And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.


And He said to them, You will surely say this proverb to Me, Physician, heal yourself. Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in your native-place.


because You will not leave My soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your holy One to see corruption.


seeing this beforehand, he spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor would His flesh see corruption,


as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them, in like manner to these, committing fornication, and going away after other flesh, laid down an example before-times, undergoing vengeance of everlasting fire.


and the Living One, and I became dead, and behold, I am alive for ever and ever, Amen. And I have the keys of hell and of death.


And their bodies will lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.


And the sea gave up the dead in it. And death and hell delivered up the dead in them. And each one of them was judged according to their works.


And I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him sitting on it was Death, and Hell followed with him. And authority was given to them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with the sword and with hunger and with death and by the beasts of the earth.
