Jehovah shall cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaks proud things,


that has said, With our tongue we shall do much; our lips are our own; who is lord over us?


For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, I will now arise, says Jehovah. I will set in safety, he pants for it.


They are enclosed in their own fat; with their mouth they speak proudly,


Your tongue devises evil, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.


My soul is among lions; I lie among those on fire, the sons of men whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.


They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walks through the earth.


For their heart was not right with Him, neither were they faithful in His covenant.


but they turned back, and acted unfaithfully like their fathers; they were turned aside like a deceiving bow.


For Jerusalem is ruined and Judah has fallen; because their tongue and their doings are against Jehovah, to provoke the eyes of His glory.


Then they said, Come and let us plot schemes against Jeremiah. For the Law shall not perish from the priest, nor wisdom from the wise, nor the Word from the prophet. Come and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not pay attention to any of his words.


And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah has not turned to Me with her whole heart, but with falsehood, says Jehovah.


For so says Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel: As My anger and My fury has been poured forth on the people of Jerusalem, so shall My fury be poured forth on you when you shall enter into Egypt. And you shall be a curse, and a wonder, and a shame, and a reproach; and you shall see this place no more.


So says the Lord Jehovah: You shall drink of your sister's cup deep and large; you shall be laughed to scorn and mocked; for it holds much.


And when they entered the nations where they went, they even profaned My holy name by saying to them, These are the people of the Jehovah, and they are gone out of His land.


And he shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and plot to change times and laws. And they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and one-half time.


He shall not return to the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.


And My people are bent on backsliding from Me. Though they called them to the Most High, none at all would exalt Him.


O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your goodness is like a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goes away.


Woe to them! For they have fled from Me. Ruin to them! Because they have sinned against Me. Though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against Me.


They shall not dwell in Jehovah's land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.


They shall not pour wine to Jehovah, nor shall they be pleasing to Him. Their sacrifices shall be like the bread of sorrows to them; all who eat of them shall be defiled. For their bread is for their soul, it shall not come into the house of Jehovah.


For lo, they have left because of destruction. Egypt shall gather them up; Memphis shall bury them. Nettles shall possess the desirable things of their silver; thorns shall be in their tents.


Your words have been strong against Me, says Jehovah. Yet you say, What have we spoken against You?


You have said, It is vain to serve God; and, What profit is it that we have kept His charge, and that we have walked as mourners before Jehovah of Hosts?


But I say to you that every idle word, whatever men may speak, they shall give account of it in the day of judgment.


Those on the rock are the ones who, when they hear, receive the Word with joy. And these have no root, who for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.


Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. Behold how little a fire kindles how large a forest!


For that righteous one living among them, in seeing and hearing, his righteous soul was tormented from day to day with their unlawful deeds.


And a mouth speaking great things was given to it, and blasphemies. And authority was given to it to continue forty-two months.
