And there came one who had escaped. And he told Abram the Hebrew, for he lived in the plains of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner. And these had a covenant with Abram.


And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and both of them made a covenant.


This is why he called that place Beer-sheba, because they swore, both of them, there.


And Abraham planted a tree in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of Jehovah, the everlasting God.


And he had possession of flocks and possession of herds, and many servants. And the Philistines envied him.


And when he had been there a long time, it happened that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out through the window, and saw; and behold! Isaac was caressing Rebekah his wife.


And come now, let us make a covenant, you and I. And let it be for a witness between you and me.


The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.
