The burden concerning the beasts of the south. Into the land of trouble and woe. The lioness and the lion are from them; the viper, and the fiery flying serpent. They carry their riches on the shoulders of young asses, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people that cannot profit.


Behold, you are of nothing, and your work of nothing. He who chooses you is an abomination.


They hatch adders' eggs and weave the spider's web; he who eats their eggs dies, and that which is crushed breaks out into a viper.


as if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a snake bit him.


Offspring of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.


Serpents! Offspring of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?


But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said to them, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?


they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will be well.


And the foreigners showed us not the common kindness. For they kindled a fire and welcomed all of us, because of the rain coming on, and because of the cold.


And when the foreigners saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, being saved from the sea, Justice has not allowed to live.
