And Absalom sent for Ahithophel of Giloh, David's counselor, from his city Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people with Absalom grew more and more.


And the advice of Ahithophel, which he advised in those days, was as if a man had inquired at the oracle of God. So was all the advice of Ahithophel, both with David and with Absalom.


And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovah had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Jehovah might bring evil on Absalom.


And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, even he saddled the ass and arose, and went home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order. And he hanged himself and died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.


And Absalom said, Please call Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what is in his mouth.


And Hushai said to Absalom, The advice which Ahithophel has given is not good at this time.


frustrating the plans of the crafty, nor did their hands do wisely.


And they surrounded me with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.


A Psalm of David, when he fled from his son Absalom. O Lord, how my foes have increased! Many are the ones who rise up against me.


Even a man, my friend, in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.


They go around her on her walls by day and night; and evil and sorrow are in her midst.


For it is not an enemy who reviled me; then I could have borne it; it is not one who hates me who magnified himself against me; or I would hide myself from him;


And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst of it, and I will destroy its wisdom. And they shall seek to idols, and to the enchanters, and to the mediums, and to the future-tellers.


who brings to nothing the signs of the liars, and makes diviners mad; who turns the wise backward, and makes their knowledge foolish;


I do not speak of you all; I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "He who eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me."


Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?


This is not the wisdom coming down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
