And King David longed to go forth to Absalom, for he was comforted about Amnon, since he was dead.


And Joab sent to Tekoah and brought a wise woman from there. And he said to her, Please pretend yourself to be a mourner, and put on mourning clothes now, and do not anoint yourself with oil. But be like a woman who has mourned for the dead a long time.


And the king was much moved, and went up to the room over the gate and wept. And as he went, he said this, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for you, O Absalom, my son, my son!


And the victory that day was turned into mourning to all the people. For the people heard it said that day how the king was grieved for his son.


But the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!


And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab and Abishai and Asahel. And Asahel was swift with his feet, like one of the gazelles in the field.


Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. And the sons of Zeruiah were Abishai, and Joab, and Asahel, three.


Many seek the ruler's favor; but each man's judgment comes from Jehovah.
