So are the ways of everyone who gains unjust gain; it takes away its owners' life.


He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes shall live.


Better is the end of a thing than the beginning of it; the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.


Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower which is on the head of the fat valleys of those who are overcome with wine!


But they also have sinned through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way. The priest and the prophet have sinned through drink; they are swallowed up by wine; they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.


For everyone from the least of them even to the greatest of them cuts off a profit; and from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.


Therefore I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who shall inherit them, for everyone from the least even to the greatest cuts off a profit. From the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.


And every priest shall not drink wine when they enter the inner court.


Do not drink wine nor strong drink, neither you nor your sons with you, when you go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest you die, a statute forever throughout your generations.


If a man walks with wind and lies falsely, saying, I will drop words to you for wine and for strong drink, he shall even be a dropper of words for this people.


Her heads judge for a bribe, and her priests teach for pay, and her prophets divine for silver, yet they will lean on Jehovah and say, Is not Jehovah among us? No evil can come on us!


So says Jehovah concerning the prophets who make My people err, who bite with their teeth and cry, Peace! And whoever does not give for their mouth, they even sanctify a war against him.


Who is even among you who will shut the doors, and you not kindle fire on My altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says Jehovah of Hosts. I will not be pleased with an offering from you.


And He said to them, It is written, "My house shall be called the house of prayer"; but you have made it a den of thieves.


I have coveted no man's silver or gold or apparel.


For they who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches they deceive the hearts of the simple.


And do not be drunk with wine, in which is excess, but be filled with the Spirit,


Now we exhort you, brothers, warn those who are unruly, comfort the faint-hearted, support the weak, be patient toward all.


Likewise the deacons are to be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of ill gain,


For men will be self-lovers, money-lovers, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,


whose mouth you must stop, who subvert whole houses, teaching things not right for the sake of ill gain.


For an overseer must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not full of passion, not given to wine, not quarrelsome, not greedy for ill gain;


Let the aged women likewise be in reverent behavior, not slanderers, not enslaved by much wine, teachers of good;


to speak evil of no one, not being quarrelsome, but forbearing, showing all meekness to all men.


Let your way of life be without the love of money, and be content with such things as you have, for He has said, "Not at all will I leave you, not at all will I forsake you, never!"


From where do wars and fightings among you come? Is it not from this, from your lusts which war in your members?


Feed the flock of God among you, taking the oversight, not by compulsion, but willingly; nor for base gain, but readily;


And through covetousness they will use you for gain with well-turned words; for whom judgment from of old does not linger, and their destruction does not sleep.


Woe to them! For they went the way of Cain, and gave themselves up to the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.


I, John, who also am your brother and companion in the affliction, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the island that is called Patmos, for the Word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.


And his sons did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after ill gain and took bribes and perverted judgment.
