And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.


When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them:


Let thistles grow instead of wheat, And cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.


And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, And nettles had covered the face thereof, And the stone wall thereof was broken down.


In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.


Then shall he give the rain of thy seed, that thou shalt sow the ground withal; and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shall be fat and plenteous: in that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures.


Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come.

These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
