And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Geha´zi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the Lord hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.


The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.


Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;


and wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.


Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.


What shall I say? He hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.


Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.


And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.


And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
