On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;


And one of the sons of Joi´ada, the son of Eli´ashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanbal´lat the Hor´onite: therefore I chased him from me.


And before this, Eli´ashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto Tobi´ah:


But when Sanbal´lat the Hor´onite, and Tobi´ah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king?


But it came to pass, that when Sanbal´lat, and Tobi´ah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ash´dodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,


Now it came to pass, when Sanbal´lat, and Tobi´ah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)


And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.


For Mor´decai the Jew was next unto king Ahasue´rus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.


The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.


Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?


for a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;


I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.


My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zo´ar, a heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horona´im they shall raise up a cry of destruction.


Then Ish´ma-el carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, even the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Neb´uzar–a´dan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedali´ah the son of Ahi´kam: and Ish´ma-el the son of Nethani´ah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the Ammonites.


From the cry of Heshbon even unto Ele-a´leh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zo´ar even unto Horona´im, as a heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.


For in the going up of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horona´im the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.


being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.


Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
