then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:


And all the army of the Chaldees, that were with the captain of the guard, brake down the walls of Jerusalem round about.


And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.


Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnez´zar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city;


Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.


Now these are the chief of the province that dwelt in Jerusalem: but in the cities of Judah dwelt every one in his possession in their cities, to wit, Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the Neth´inim, and the children of Solomon's servants.


And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and the gates thereof were consumed with fire.


Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.


and said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?


These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnez´zar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city;


Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasue´rus, (this is Ahasue´rus which reigned from India even unto Ethiopia, over a hundred and seven and twenty provinces,)


We are become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.


He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.


Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches.


And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:


and I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places whither I shall drive them.


And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:


And the Chalde´ans burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and brake down the walls of Jerusalem.


For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.


Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the Lord's.


and all the army of the Chalde´ans, that were with the captain of the guard, brake down all the walls of Jerusalem round about.


Jerusalem remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the adversaries saw her, and did mock at her sabbaths.


Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the Lord.


Thou hast heard their reproach, O Lord, and all their imaginations against me;


Remember, O Lord, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach.


And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savor of your sweet odors.


And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.
