And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adul´lamite, whose name was Hirah.


the son of Hesed, in Aru´both; to him pertained Sochoh, and all the land of Hepher:


And his wife Jehudi´jah bare Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Socho, and Jeku´thi-el the father of Zano´ah. And these are the sons of Bithi´ah the daughter of Pharaoh, which Mered took.


and Beth–zur, and Shoco, and Adul´lam,


and Adora´im, and Lachish, and Aze´kah,


and at En–rim´mon, and at Zare´ah, and at Jarmuth,


Yet will I bring an heir unto thee, O inhabitant of Mare´shah: he shall come unto Adul´lam the glory of Israel.


And the Lord discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Beth–ho´ron, and smote them to Aze´kah, and unto Makke´dah.


And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.


Wherefore Ado´ni–ze´dek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhi´a king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,


the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;


the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adul´lam, one;


and Zano´ah, and En–gan´nim, Tap´pu-ah, and Enam,


and Shara´im, and Aditha´im, and Gede´rah, and Gederotha´im; fourteen cities with their villages.


And in the mountains, Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh,


Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Aze´kah, in Ephes–dam´mim.


David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adul´lam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him.
